We had a big turnout for the first event of the season under new Captain Phil Colmer, so 33 of us ventured over the county border to Rushmore, a new venue, and one that spans two counties, the first 4 holes in Wiltshire, then the rest in Dorset before returning back again for the last 3 holes.
The weather forecast wasn't great, but in the end we had a little bit of drizzle for most of the day, with some dry parts until it got a bit heavier towards the end. The course looked quite open but with a lot of very large trees located in strategic positions meant there was always a challenge to find the taget area.
Phil COlmer led the way with his ceremonial opening tee shot, not too many words to say but he did make it passed the forward tees, interestingly the tee boxes all had different names, we played from the Presidents (that had a 'P' on the tee markers) but there was also a Park tee which led to some confusion, but not as much as the opening group who managed to miss out the 11 hole all together, definitely a challenge to score well only playing 17 holes!
On the course Jim White defended his title from last year with 35 points, winning by two from Andy Pryce and Richard Davis on 33 points, unusllay looking at the score on Golf Genious app both Richard and David Greetham both had exactly the same score on every hole on the front nine and both having t he same handicap meant all to play for on the back 9. We had 4 guests playing on the day, Carl Whatley with 36 points, Gere Smith 32, Roy Dunkinson 29 and Matt Scott with 26. I'm not sure how it didn;t go in but Pete Botterill won Nearest the Pin on the 17th, finishing about an inch short of the hole, need an extr session in the gym or tee it up a bit closer! Matt Scott won nearest the pin on the 4th hole, John Sheehan with the longest drive on the 15th and Stuart Marks with nearest the pin in 2 on the 18th hole. Pete SMith didn;t have the best day unfortunately taking the wwoden spoon with Dave Adams winning the 15+ competition with the new process that you can only win one prize in the order of merit this year.
