The forecast again terrible for the day, and for the first time the Stragglers were playing 27 holes in the one day with the total stableford score over the 27 holes deciding the winner of the Memorial Salver.
There were a few showers early on but the weather relented and the sun came out, it definitely shone on Ken Biffen had an amazing days golf totaling 61 points on the 27 holes, with Phil Colmer having a great day with 53 points and Phil Burridge close behind with 50 points.
The day started with the usual bacon sandwich and then 9 holes on the Embley course, Andy Pryce managed 22 points on the nine which was just good enough to pip Ken on count-back for the best score on the first nine holes. The totals for the 9 and 18 holes are on the results page. We were treated to some very good sandwiches and chips on the patio before tackling theRyedown and then Blackwater courses to make up the next 18 holes. Tiredness kicked in for a few and there always seemed to be a ditch somewhere to get over which captured a few balls on the day! Andy Heyes recorded an eagle, with a chip in from 70 yards and John Wolfe had a tap in (about 2 inches) birdie on the closet to the pin in two hole which almost dropped but nobody was beating that one. Ferret almost drove the green on the morning nearest to the pin hole and putted down to about 18 inches, but in the group behind Chucky did the same thing but putted to an inch closer!
Another great day and the pie and mash went down well afterwards, good to try something different for the memorial trophy, which as it isn't an order of merit event may be the event which tries a different format, so any suggestions please let us know.
