REPORT
A surprisingly mild day in March with very little wind meant West Hill Golf Club was looking glorious, one of the best courses the Stragglers has visited and it didn't disappoint, the greens had just been hollow tined but they still rolled out very well.
Simon Straker began his captaincy at his home course, his Father lives on the 11th hole, and I'm sure Andy Buck did his best to break the windows! However Bingo opted to take an iron of the first day for the Captains Drive which was a little disappointing but probably sensible with a water hazard running across the fairway at the bottom of the hill.
The scoring was tough but one man managed to go better than his handicap, which was Alan Eastwood with 37 points, good enough to win his second event by 1 point from Stuart Marks, and the ever dependable Andy Birch pipping Jason Laney on countback with 35 points.
Alan also leads the 15+ handicap competition, this year changing from the 20 and over handicaps so lots more for people to play for come the final event in November.
The meal afterwards was very well, with the desert trolley taking a hammering, however Captain Simon unusually had a small plate, probably because oh his sponsored diet! He has currently lost 2 stone and aiming for 50 pounds by the last event. This year's charity event depends on how he does, so get sponsoring!!
