REPORT
The first 27 hole event for the Stragglers, and we had 40 turn out for a 9 hole team event (best 2 out of 4 scores) and the individual Order of Merit 18 holes at Barton-on-Sea.
Again, the weather was glorious (gets a bit repetitive saying this now!), the view across to whats left of the Needles on the Isle of Wight was stunning once the early fog had cleared and the usual strong winds stayed pretty dormant!
The 9 hole team event on the 'Stroller' course suited most people with Chucky very excited by a team score of 39 having a good chance of winning! However, it was Team Straker, Heyes and Birch with a staggering 52 points (incl extra 6 points for only 3 players) that took top spot! Jase's team came in second to last!
The full 18 hole stableford competition was fiercely fought. The two tee time start on the Becton and Needles courses worked very well with most people all getting into the clubhouse at a similar time (reducing the drinking time for some, although JP got through quite a few!). It also allowed a good view of the short 120 yard par 3 island green and a view of those who lost there ball to the water, check out the photos of the event!
Andy White was an early clubhouse leader with 38 points and was particularly enjoying the forthcoming victory and winning his first Order of Merit Event. That was until Florida Phil came in late with 39 points to pip Whitey by only one point!
Great day was had by all, even Beaker who was very weary of the potential snakes on the course, never has a man jumped so much by a 'fake' snake noise!!
