REPORT
The final event of the year was once again a glorious day with blue skies and crisp fairways, a slight chill but nothing a good base layer wouldn't handle. The course was in great condition, greens were tricky and the fairways lush.
The Order of Merit result seemed to be in the bag for the 3016 Captain Geoff Laney, he has led from the first event and with only a couple of players able to catch him it would need a miracle to change the outcome! Call it the miracle at Medinah or the Winder at Winchester, but Jon Sankey, who won the previous event and capable of catching Geoff carded an early 39 points, sat in the clubhouse for a patient wait to see if he would be overtaken. He must come at least 2nd on his own to stand a chance. The pressure was too much for Geoff who went out for 7 more holes with Chris Wheeler!
The groups came and went with no one threatening 39 points, that is until the 7th group of the day and Phil Courtney who scored a whopping 46 points the week before came in with 40 points to more Jon into second which was still enough! That is until the next group got to the clubhouse and David Birch scored 39 points to finish tied second the Geoff Laney is the 2016 Order of Merit Champion 2016 by just 0.5 points!!
Down at the bottom of the scoreboard there was a glut of players on 22 and 23 points, next years captain JP was in the mix as usual but with only 21 points it was a previous winner big Al Eastwood who won the wooden spoon!
Tony Fawcett won the Division 2 (20+ handicap) title for the second year, just pipping Fred Sharrock, maybe next year Fred if you continue improving at this rate!
