'Don Marks' Winter Shield
Royal Winchester Golf Club
22nd November 2013
James Slape produced an inspirational performance to win the 'Don Marks' Winter Shield with 42 points, beating Paul Baker by 1 point.
David Greetham scored 36 points to come from the pack to win the Order of Merit 2013, with all the contenders falling away Stick took 1st place from Jason Laney only 3 points behind.
The final event of 2013 was once again a sunny crisp day in November, must be noted that the weather has been very kind to HSGS, long may it continue! Melly led the way with his guests for the final time as Captain, the rest followed with varying degrees of success. Andy White apart from his two on the 3rd hole didn't have much success at all scoring only 22 points and apart from JP coming in with 19 points would have taken the wooden spoon!
Those that did have a good day were James Slape, Paul Baker (despite an alleged all nighter watching the Ashes cricket the night before with Mark Copping, not sure Cops would agree as I'm sure Bakes got his head down for quite a few hours!), and Jon Spickett who finished in third place with 38 points, Jon's good play probably dragged Stick along, he scored 36 points.
Those that fell by the wayside in the Order of Merit were Jon Steel (leader into the last event) 33 points, Colin Maby 28 points, Jay Adams 30 points and John Sheehan 30 points, which meant the final reslts were very tight.
After the golf the usual end of season dinner was again excellently organised by Andy Heyes and others, this year saw a magician attend to entertain the tables and finish with a bit trick! Lots of dancing and drinking continued into the night and fun had by all.
