Royal Winchester Golf Club
23rd November 2012
As the saying goes, 'the sun always shines on the righteous'!! Torrential rain preceded and followed the final 'Order of Merit' event of 2012. But, unbelievably, the weather was - yet again - kind to the Stragglers. After torrential rain and flooding all week, the sun and blue skies emerged for the golf, and what a day it was!!
The early starters, Andy Heyes and John Sheehan, teed off at 7am to get some work commitments done during the day. The rest of the Stragglers started, in perfect weather, at 10am. There were some great scores posted at the half way stage, notably Adie Bell, who was three-under (gross) at the turn and four-under after 10 holes, and Pete Green, who posted a whopping 24 points after 9 holes!!
It was, however, one of the early starters, our very own Chairman Andy Heyes, who set the marker for everyone to chase, shooting a gross 76 for a magnificent 42 stableford points to pip Dave Brown and Pete Green, both of whom scored 41 points to finish in joint second place.
Other winners on the day were Alan Eastwood ('Nearest the Pin' on the 11th), Geoff Laney ('Nearest the Pin in 2' on the 18th) and Jason Laney('Longest Drive' on the 10th).
