The sun always shines on the righteous and Monday 7th May 2012 was no exception! The heavy rains which had been around for weeks decided to clear just before the first tee times and returned when all the Stragglers were in the bar - amazing!

The sun certainly shone on Geoff Laney who produce 38 points to win the 2012 Spring Cup and pick up his first Stragglers trophy. Phil Green finished second with 37 points and tightened his grip on the 20+ Handicap Competition. Andy Buck, with 36 points, reinforced his lead in the race for the 'Order of Merit' with third place on count-back from Jay Adams, playing in his first Stragglers event, David Birch and Andy Birch.

It seemed that the back 9 caused the most trouble for everyone, good front nines from Jeff Vale, Andy Birch, Jean-Marc (22 on the front and 8 on the back!) and Andy Heyes were not matched on the back nine, a solid back nine from Geoff Laney proveed to be the difference. Maybe it could be down to the eccles cakes and other delights at the half way hut!!

Team winners on the day were Andy Birch, Jeff Vale and Andy Heyes.

Special mention should go to Joe, Timber and JP for completing their round in record time, about 60 mins after the group behid them!

A number of new HSGS shirts, jumpers and towels were on display for the first time (all available on the merchandise section of the website!), although not many pink trousers were visible, probably because of the damp conditions.

Closest to the pin on the 13th went to Andy Buck!

Longest drive went to Ferret with a good hit up the 15th!

Nearest the pin in two on the 18th Gary Harris

Wooden Spoon with 16 points went to Dom Campbell
